We keep you up to date.

Overview of Funding Programs

1. Federal Funding

KfW Program 270 “Renewable Energies – Standard”

  • Enables low-interest loans (from around 3.8% effective, partly from 0.78%) for photovoltaic systems and battery storage.

  • Financing of up to 100% of investment costs, max. €150 million per project.

  • Application is processed via your primary bank and must be submitted before the start of the project.

  • Combination possible with municipal grants and tax benefits.

Tax Benefits

  • Since January 1, 2023, a VAT rate of 0% applies to PV systems and associated battery storage – this saves 19% VAT.

  • Income (e.g., through the feed-in tariff) from systems up to 30 kWp is exempt from income tax – no profit determination is required either.

  • The EEG feed-in tariff secures remuneration for 20 years per kWh fed into the grid – not a direct grant, but a financial planning aid.

  • Freiburg (“Klimafreundlich wohnen”): €150/kWh, max. approx. €1,500

3. Combination Options & Strategy

Funding Level Type of Funding Combinability
Federal Level KfW Loan 270 (low-interest) + 0% VAT + tax relief
Regional Level Grants (€/kWh or % of costs) with KfW
EEG Feed-in Tariff Long-term remuneration per kWh fed in independent

Tip: Ideally, you combine a municipal grant program (e.g., €250–300/kWh) with the KfW loan and additionally benefit from the zero-VAT regulation.
